My Background

So Eugenie, what's so special about you? I don't usually blow my own trumpet, but I'm going to make an exception here. The fact is that I get results. Check me out on tutorhunt.com and the testimonials on this website, for acknowledgment of satisfied students (and parents). I am passionate about providing a supportive, nurturing environment for learners, so you will always feel supported on your journey to improving your English. Typically, my tutees have improved their predicted GCSE or A Level outcomes by at least two grades.
How do most students know about you? Virtually always by word of mouth. I was initially approached about 10 years ago by parents to help their children with GCSE English revision and after getting great results, I've received referrals ever since.
Tell me more. I excelled in English at school and my career history has always had literary associations. I was a journalist for over 20 years, writing for the trade publication Foodnews, before switching to teaching English in many forms in Further Education.
I also dabble in creative writing and am currently a Librarian at a leading boys' grammar school in London, so I'm inspired to read a wide range of fiction encompassing Young Adult, as well as mainstream titles.

My Expertise

How long have you been tutoring? I have been a private tutor for over 10 years.
What is your teaching experience? I have over 15 years' teaching experience from working as a lecturer in a number of Further Education Colleges in London. These include the Fashion Retail Academy, Croydon College and Lambeth College.
What subjects do you teach? I teach English at different levels: A Level English Literature; GCSE English Language and Literature; ESOL at all levels including Business English; English for 11+ (grammar school entry); Adult literacy (all levels) and Learn To Read (for adults). I also teach dyslexic students and am currently studying for the specialist Level 5 teaching qualification via the British Dyslexia Association.

Personalised Lessons

What format does your teaching take? All teaching sessions are held online. Each one-to-one session takes place over Zoom, for one hour. Group sessions (minimum of two students, maximum of 10), are also held via Zoom, for one hour.
I'm a really nervous student and have always struggled with English. Can you help me? Sure I can! Whether you're studying A Level English Literature, or just want to brush up on basic English, I'll be here to help you to hurdle over each barrier. Your lessons will be individually personalised and tailor-made to suit your needs.
Can you help me to improve my spoken English? Absolutely! You may have good written English but want to improve your verbal English skills, so that you feel more confident in the workplace, or in social settings. I will teach you the best strategies for correct pronunciation and intonation, so that your self-esteem grows.
